Vacys Reimeris

Vatsis Reimeris (Vatsis Kazimirovich Reimeris; ((lang-lt | Vacys Reimeris)); born 3 August 1921, in the Kuršėnai Šiauliai district of Lithuania) - a Lithuanian Soviet poet, translator, honored culture Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (1965).

Biography

He graduated from elementary school in Kuršėnai (1934) and completed a gymnasium course called «Savišvieta» («Self", likely a form of correspondence program; 1941). At the beginning of WWII was evacuated inside the USSR. He was a member of the CPSU from 1945. After the war he worked on radio in Kaunas. He was the head of the Kaunas Branch of Lithuanian Writers' Union. He was the chief editor of the weekly newspaper of the Union of Writers «Literatūra ir menas» (Literature and Art, 1949–1959).

From 1951-1956 he studied at the Moscow Maxim Gorky Literature Institute. From 1952-1954 he was the secretary of the Writers' Union of Lithuania. In 1969-1986 he was editor in chief of the weekly newspaper of the Company with sootechestvenikami abroad «Gimtasis kraštas» («Native Land").

For a cycle of poems about the India in the collection Prie baltojo Tadž (the white Taj, 1962) he was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru (1968). State Prize of the Lithuanian SSR (1975). Winner of the Spring Poetry (1977). He was awarded two medals. Honorary Citizen Kuršėnai (1981).

Works

The press made its debut in 1934. The first book of poems Tėvų žemei (Land of our Fathers) was released in 1945. Collections of poetry include Su pavasariu (In the spring, 1948), Ir skrenda daina (A Song Arises, 1952), Su tavim aš kalbu (I'm Speaking with You, 1958), and others. Other works include Žemė su puokšte gėlių (1986), a collection of poems for children, Šarkos švarkas (1974), Į svečius Liliputijon (2001).

He published a collection of essays about Lithuania Lietuva - broliška žemė (1966) and a book of impressions of a trip to United States Užatlantės laiškai (1974). In poetry, his themes include official optimism, peace work, the heroism of the Soviet people, the struggle for peace. Poetry is репортажный character, often with a distinct narrative storyline. Much of the poems include love lyrics (especially the collection "Ave Maria").

Works Reimeris was translated into the languages of the USSR. There are known translations in English, Polish, Russian (S. SHervinskom, Eug. Vinokurov, Mikhail Dvinskiy), Ukrainian and other languages.
